“The Bank of America download will not import”
Bank of America offers several download formats on the same screen, and the one selected by default is rarely the one your software wants. Most import failures here are a choice made two clicks earlier rather than a broken file, which is good news: the fix is a different download, not a repair.

What actually causes it
The wrong download format was selected
The export screen lists Microsoft Excel, Quicken, QuickBooks and comma-delimited on one menu. Choosing Excel gives you a CSV named for a spreadsheet, and pointing Quicken at it produces a format error that says nothing about the actual mistake.
Web Connect files are tied to your Quicken version
The QFX format carries a bank identifier that Quicken checks against its own list of supported institutions. An older, unsupported Quicken version rejects a perfectly valid file, and the message blames the file rather than the version check.
The available range is shorter than you expect
Statement downloads reach back further than transaction downloads, and the two live in different parts of the site. Asking for a year from the transaction screen quietly returns only what that screen holds.
How to fix it
- Choose the Quicken (QFX) option for Quicken, the QuickBooks (QBO) option for QuickBooks, and comma-delimited only for everything else.
- Drop the download into the checker below before importing: it reports what the file actually is, regardless of the extension it arrived with.
- For long histories, export month by month from the transaction screen rather than asking for a single large range.
- If Quicken rejects a valid QFX, the version check is the likely cause; a CSV import into the same account is the practical way around it.
