Quicken

“My account is not in the import list”

The import dialog opens, you pick the file, and the account you want is simply not among the choices. Nothing is broken — Quicken is filtering the list, and the filter depends on both the file type and how the account was set up.

Symptoms

  • The account list in the import dialog is missing the account you need
  • The menu item for importing is greyed out entirely
  • Other accounts appear normally in the same dialog

What actually causes it

Cause 1

The account type does not accept this format

QIF import is restricted to cash, asset, liability and invoice accounts in current Quicken; bank, credit card and investment accounts are excluded by design. The account is hidden rather than refused, which makes it look like a bug.

Cause 2

The account is hidden or closed

Accounts marked hidden, or closed in the account list, are excluded from import targets while still holding their history.

Cause 3

The file specifies its own account

A QFX file states which account it belongs to. When that identifier does not match anything in your file, Quicken offers to create a new account rather than listing existing ones.

How to fix it

  1. Confirm the file is sound first with the fixer below, so you are not chasing an account problem that is really a file problem.
  2. Check the account type in the account list; if it is a bank or credit card account and you have a QIF, that route is closed regardless of the file.
  3. Unhide the account or reopen it temporarily if it was hidden.
  4. For QFX, compare the account identifier in the file against the one Quicken stored — a mismatch is what pushes it toward creating a new account.

Skip the manual edit — fix it automatically

The fixer confirms the file and shows the account details inside it, separating "Quicken will not offer the account" from "the file names a different one". Free, no signup, no upload.
