“My credit union export imports badly or not at all”
Credit unions rarely write their own online banking software; they license a platform shared by hundreds of institutions. That means the export quirks you hit are usually the platform’s, not your credit union’s — and the same fix works across all of them.

What actually causes it
Incomplete OFX account blocks
Shared platforms sometimes emit the transaction list without the account identification block that names the routing number and account type. Importers that follow the specification refuse the file, because there is no way to tell which account the transactions belong to.
Generic or missing institution identifiers
The FID and INTU.BID fields tell Quicken which institution a Web Connect file came from. Platforms serving many credit unions sometimes leave these blank or reuse a placeholder, and Quicken then rejects a file it cannot attribute.
Unescaped characters in member names and memos
Ampersands and angle brackets in a payee name break OFX parsing outright, because the format treats them as markup. Larger banks strip them before export; smaller platforms often do not.
How to fix it
