“One Step Update runs but downloads nothing”
The update runs, reports success and brings back nothing. Because there is no error to work from, this is usually blamed on the connection when the cause is more often a setting or a period that genuinely holds nothing new.
Symptoms
The update completes with no errors and no new transactions The bank website shows activity the update did not bring It worked last week with the same setup
What actually causes it
Everything was already downloaded
Quicken asks only for activity since its last successful update. If that ran this morning, an afternoon run has nothing to fetch, and success with nothing to show is the correct outcome.
The activity is still pending
Card authorisations are not downloadable until they post, which typically takes one to three business days. They are visible on the website and absent from every export in the meantime.
The account is not selected for updating
Accounts can be excluded from One Step Update individually. An account switched off updates nothing while the overall run still reports success.
Transactions arrived in a different account
Where an earlier import created a duplicate account, new downloads may land there while you watch the original.
How to fix it
- Check the account list for a duplicate created by an earlier import — this is the cause people find last and should look for first.
- Confirm the account is ticked in the One Step Update settings.
- Download a statement manually and drop it into the fixer below: the transaction count tells you whether the activity is downloadable yet.
- If the file is genuinely empty for the period, the transactions are still pending; wait for them to post.

A transaction count from a manual download separates "nothing to fetch" from "the update is not fetching", which the success message never does. Free, no signup, no upload.
